A black and white photograph of a woman leaning on a car, possible from the 1920s.

On Tuesday April 19th deputy curator Dr Lesley Whitworth is the invited speaker in the Illuminations series of talks at the recently revamped Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry.  She will be profiling her doctoral research which investigated changes in shopping patterns and retail provision in the city in the 1930s, following the rapid economic and demographic growth that took place between the World Wars.  The research was completed at the Centre for the Study of Social History at the University of Warwick, with an ESRC studentship.
