A poster for World Industrial Day (2009) with the phrase "Don't throw anything away, there is no 'away'" made up of trash items. Designed by Van Orin Vrkas and Bojan Kristofic of the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

World Industrial Design Day happens on 29 June this year, and will coincide with the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts’ Research Festival.  The event is organised by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and was inaugurated in 2007 on the 50th anniversary of the organisation’s founding.  The intention is to highlight the contribution designers and design academics make to the development of the discipline, and the evolution of collaborations that help improve economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of life throughout the world.  It will be marked around the world by ICSID members, partner organisations, and interested others, through a series of sustainability workshops, exhibitions, international symposiums on socially responsible design, webcasts, and free admission to museums.

The University of Brighton is an educational member of ICSID, and the University of Brighton Design Archives hold the ICSID archive.  During the two days of the Research Festival the Design Archives’ team will be distributing badges marking a selection of classic British product designs.  Recipients will be invited to identify the designers.
