Endeavour, led by Fiona Smith, Principal Lecturer, Chelsea School and Lucy Pocknell, Senior Lecturer, Chelsea School with Random Dance and Conall Gleeson, Senior Lecturer, Arts and Media, University of Brighton.

Endeavour involves year two undergraduate Physical Education teacher training students, all members of the well-established all male, KICK-START and all female, FIDGET Dance Companies working in residency with Random Dance to create a dance inspired by an agreed aspect of London 2012. Original score will be composed by Conall Gleeson.

Within workshops, pupils will have the opportunity to view the dance piece then:

  • take part in discussion about the choreographic starting points;
  • take part in discussion about the link between the music and dance
  • perform  extracts from the dance;
  • explore choreographically their own creative responses to the work;
  • share their personal reflections and interpretations.

There is also the potential for the musicians to run parallel workshops with school music departments. For the more ambitious schools this could result in their own project combining music and dance.

Fiona Smith and Lucy Pocknell will lead a continual professional development workshop day for local teachers and create a resource pack. This pack will enable teachers to continue developing the work which may be part of their schools curriculum content or for their own performance piece.

Endeavour will first be performed on Saturday 22nd, at the Chelsea School’s London 2012 day.
