A research partnership with The Body Shop developing sustainable materials, manufacturing processes and packaging products that enrich human experience.
Established and directed by Professor Chapman in 2015, this partnership supports The Body Shop in increasing resource efficiency, enhancing product experience and cultivating brand value. This collaboration reinvigorates a culture of informed risk-taking and adventure within design and business thinking at The Body Shop; overcoming the restrictive cultures and norms that so often stifle innovation in large established businesses.
In addition to sustainable material, manufacturing process and product innovation, this research partnership is underpinned by an ongoing body of field studies, interviews and empirical research, to better understand users in relation to their particular contexts and realities. Through this research, Chapman and his team deliver Industrial Design propositions that drive sustainable innovation at The Body Shop; they do this in three key ways:
Postgraduate students play an active role in the research, and several academic colleagues also participate, where complementary knowledge and expertise align.
