Urban + Interiors Matter Lecture Series
Katy Beinart, Bartlett, University College.
Katy Beinart is an artist and an educator and is currently doing a practice-based PhD at the Bartlett. She has practiced as an artist since 2004, combining art and architecture to make work in the public realm as well as exhibiting in galleries in the UK and abroad. She uses participatory research processes to respond to the context of places/sites, examining themes of history/memory, and culture and environment. Through the re-enactment and alteration of obsolete technologies, and rituals, she is interested in revealing pasts, and re-writing narratives of place. These new narratives fictionalise memory and history to create active processes of remembering. Katy has a Masters in Development Practices and since 2008 she has lectured in Architecture and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Brighton. She has particular experience and interests in participation, community facilitation/engagement, urban planning, and regeneration. These interests frequently form elements of, and influence, her artistic practice.
