DR brings together staff and research students from across the College of Arts and Humanities to increase the exchange of knowledge, the forging of new research alliances and the development of new and critical views of 'Design Research'. All individuals share a common reconsideration of Design Research extending the possibilities of what design research can be, how it can be actioned and what impact design research can have beyond its own discipline.
We aspire to excellence in the quality of our research, our research environment, and in the partnerships and collaborations we form in pursuit of knowledge. Research at the University of Brighton is positioned at the heart of a series of creative, cultural and economic networks and at the heart of the creative and cultural cityscape of Brighton itself.
DR is instrumental, through the university and faculty policy, for training, support, and reward for researchers undertaking impactful activities through the specific allocation of time, co-investment (e.g. through EaSE sabbaticals), through bespoke support for funding applications (e.g. Nominet), or through structured matched funding (e.g. EU Interreg).
As a research group, DR attempts to redefine and promote recognition of the fundamental significance of design, aiming to encourage collaboration with researchers across different disciplines. It is particularly concerned with the facilitation of innovative thinking across the spectrum, initiating design research in a wide range of contexts including arts, science and engineering.
