Fresh talent to be showcased at London Fashion Week
23 Feb 2015
University of Brighton Fashion Design BA(Hons) students Ellie Carless and Prash Muralseethran are two of 17 finalists whose work will go on show at London Fashion Week.
Ellie and Prash have been shortlisted for the Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) Competition, the final of which is due to take place on the 24 February, 2015. This year the competition theme is for designs inspired by theories of physics and many of the entrants have adopted a scientist’s approach to secure their place in the final.
Prash’s entry uses fibres treated with thermochromic and photochromic layered dyes to create garments which alter in reaction to a physical or emotional condition.
Ellie Carless’s designs are founded upon a unique approach to tailoring whereby simple rectangles of fabric are manipulated into form fitting garments
Both students competed with a field of 150 other students from 40 UK colleges and universities to produce mini-collections of two outfits, menswear or womenswear, which explore the commonalities of physics and design.
The finalists’ garments will appear in a catwalk show at London Fashion Week and entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts including Geraldine Cox, Physics Artist in Residence Imperial College, Professor Clare Johnston, Head of Textiles at the RCA and Tamsin Blanchard, Fashion Features Director at the Telegraphy Magazine, who will select one overall winner and two runners up.
The winner will receive prize money of £1,000 and a top industry placement.
