The Centre for Research and Development (Arts) offers a number of office resources and facilities to the College of Arts and Humanities, researchers and visitors. You can also apply to come to us for a study visit.
A dedicated IT suite is available to all College postgraduate research students (Room M50). Computers offer standard software and Adobe Creative Suiteand further workstations allow laptop users to ‘plug and play’. An informal meeting area can be used to spread out work, for presentations or for meetings between students. Scanning, printing, and tea and coffee facilities are also available.
Further computing facilities can be found at the Media Centres, located on the third floor of the Grand Parade building and the ground floor of the Edward Street building.
The College of Arts and Humanities is keen to work with researchers from other institutions, nationally and internationally. The CRD can accommodate researchers coming to the College for study visits, research projects with the College, or visiting fellowship, subject to availability. Access to email as well as the library, archives and other relevant facilities, lockable storage and both wireless and ethernet internet connections are provided, and a workstation with a telephone line may also be arranged subject to availability. Visiting researchers will benefit from being at the heart of the College’s research community and from the guidance and expertise of our researchers. They will be expected to join in seminars and research events, and to contribute to them.
If you are interested in coming to us for a study visit, you should first contact a researcher in the discipline or area that interest you, and discuss your proposed visit and its purpose with them (search our research staff). We are keen that such visits prove beneficial both for the visiting researcher and for the College, and we will seek to ascertain that you have obtained sufficient means and support to ensure that your visit is productive.
Once you have the support of one of our research departments, please email Lucy Cooke (firstname.lastname@example.org) with details of your proposed visit and the following documents:
We will check availability and seek the approval of the relevant Head of School/ Department and of the Director of Postgraduate Studies.
Please note that you would normally be expected to provide your own laptop or computer, and arrange and pay for your own accommodation and subsistence, as well as arrange any required visa and related formalities. The CRD would not normally contribute financially to your visit.
