Olympic rings against the sky - Creative Campus Initiative

South East Universities working together with a project in response to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Universities of Brighton and Sussex are part of the Creative Campus Initiative, a new consortium of thirteen Higher Education Institutions in the South East delivering a dynamic programme of cultural events and artworks in response to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Historical, cultural and social issues raised by the Games are addressed by artists, students and academics alongside the creation of new learning materials and workshops with schools and local communities.

Olympic Triple-Jump champion Jonathan Edwards and supporter of the Creative Campus Initiative said, “I’m amazed at the sheer volume and diversity of creative projects that the universities have produced. These are bringing the arts and sports together in unexpected and unique ways. I believe that higher education plays a unique role in raising the aspirations and skills of young people and this programme shows universities working”.

The Universities joint programme comprises a total of 14 projects, ranging from creative writing, digital medical scanning, sound art and music, film and moving image, dance, fashion, graphic and product design and public art. Projects have a variety of partners and will take place in schools and the community.

The programme begun in April with a project in conjunction with Brighton Marathon, continues until the end of July. The growing calendar of events can be found here.
