The College of Arts and Humanities at Brighton offers research degrees at MPhil and PhD level across a wide range of disciplines in the arts, design and the humanities. We are willing to read any proposal which is suitably delivered, and will be pleased to meet prospective candidates.

We also offer research training in the form of our MRes in Arts and Cultural Research degree.

All research students are members of the Doctoral Centre and of the University's Doctoral College, which provides advice, organises events and helps students through their research degrees towards academic, personal and employment objectives.

If you wish to study for a research degree in the arts, design or the humanities you should first look at our areas of supervisory interest and research expertise. You can contact the Doctoral Centre with your initial proposal; please refer to the advice on writing a research study proposal. Email: artsresearchstudent@brighton.ac.uk

The pages below give an indication of our areas of expertise and current doctoral supervision. One of the strengths of arts and humanities research at Brighton is its interdisciplinarity, so we welcome applications that span more than one discipline.
