The Kent Costume Trust is open to anyone interested in period costume, accessories or associated textiles. The group stages exhibitions and lectures, and holds members meetings on collecting, identifying and conserving garments. The trust offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise amongst its members, with ample opportunities to talk and share with like-minded people. The library is available by appointment to members and contains many interesting books for research purposes. The Trust puts on exhibitions throughout the year at different venues with some becoming regular annual events, such as at Goodnestone Park (summer 2011, August 14th-29th) where you can see costumes set in atmospheric surroundings.
The Trust was formed in 1983 to promote all aspects of costume, costume accessories, and associated textiles, to educate and encourage further knowledge regarding all aspects of costume. The Trust aims to assemble a collection that is both maintained and promoted within Kent. The Trust's collection now has more than 1000 items, from the 18th century onwards. At the moment the Trust has no permanent storage or exhibition space. Enquiries are however welcome.
