Biography

Takayuki Murakami was born in Saitama, Japan in 1984. He discovered photography at age of 18 at Nihon University College of Art. After working for a company about 4 years, he left this post at the end of 2010 to pursue a Masters in Photography in the United Kingdom and to explore his interest in photographing people in their pursuit of sporting excellence. With the build up towards the London 2012 Olympics, Takayuki’s arrival in Britain coincided with a sense of national anticipation regarding the hosting of one of the world’s greatest spectacles.

Takayuki’s photographic images focus on the world of sport, exploring not only the activity itself but the context and environment it takes place in. He attempts to find out the representation of sports in different way.

Acquisition Of The Extraordinary

Acquisition of the extraordinary illustrates people exercising at a local gymnastics club. These are ordinary people, far removed from the world of the professional. Most are complete novices and are facing up to new physical and mental challenges. Takayuki’s images capture the enthusiasm and dedication of the club members.
