Hook, Line and Sinker

Hook Line and Sinker is a body of work that span’s two years and is still work in process. The project began as personal journey into the Fishing industry and became quite a political undertaking. My background as a Chef and my roots in Hull, connect me to fishing and the industry that surrounds it. My perceptions and understanding of the difference between the industry that once was, and the one that now exists, has grown.

More and more I struggle to accept the brutality that runs through it all. The fish are left to asphyxiate and the local men are themselves suffocating from the globalization of the industry. Violence on all levels is justified by economics.

The wider body of work includes landscapes, photograms and multimedia installations. Each modality reflects a different aspect of the huge scale of the subject matter and the many conflicting realities it raises.
