Hilary Harris is an award-winning American Filmmaker who started off with a fascination in abstraction and pure movement and later turned toward the shapes and materials of the everyday. Harris? cinema is a visual art, in which structure arises from the visual material, through a play with forms and visual rhythm. His work observes and explores complexities, such as urban architectures, as well as the apparently simple forms found in nature. He pioneered time-lapse film-making in Organism (1975), a film in which small things and large spaces fuse to become a single, moving entity.

The Scottish critic John Grierson said about Harris: "The great thing about him is his splendid ability to see things and to give them movement"
