Performance and Visual Art

The BA(Hons) Performance and Visual Art programme offers a unique opportunity to develop a performance and visual language through practical and theoretical investigations. The degree programme offers three pathways - dance, music and theatre - each of which are combined with visual art practice.

The course encourages independent and collaborative working methods and the exploration of varied contexts for the dissemination of artistic activity. This dynamic course supports the development of individual and collective interdisciplinary performance artists with the appropriate expertise to support their particular area of contemporary art practice.

Central to the programme is a culture of exploration, informed by current innovations at the leading edge of contemporary arts/performance practice. Performance and Visual Art focuses on the development of the individual but within a structure which encourages cross disciplinary and collaborative work across dance, music and theatre. Students have the option of developing a specialism in one of these areas but can also integrate studies that combine these subjects. Brighton Performance and Visual Art graduates go on to be successful performance and live art practitioners, visual artists, musicians, composers, choreographers, film makers, producers, directors and movement researchers. Many work in media based industries whilst others choose to further studies at postgraduate level.
