Faculty of Arts Graduate Show 2014

 

For nine days this summer (7-15 June 2014) the entire Grand Parade campus was open to the public - a huge art gallery showing a range of work by students from art, design and architecture courses. And this year also saw the opening of the Brighton Waste House.

The University of Brighton Graduate Show receives fantastic national press coverage from the likes of The Guardian and Creative Review.

 

The private view is a huge celebration for final year students - on the night we gave a virtual Twitter tour of the galleries as students, parents, guardians, VIPs, staff and invited guests arrived to see the collected work.

Our Design & Craft graduates have gone on to work with individuals and companies such as Nokia, Tom Dixon, Antony Gormley, Nike, Anish Kapoor, Studio Troika, Donna Karen, Jason Bruges, Levis, Adidas, Paul Smith, Yamaha, BBC, Virgin, MGM, Warner Brothers, The BBC, Disney and the Science and Natural History Museums.

Undergraduate and postgraduate Photography alumni have been successful in many of the most prestigious photography awards including the Guardian Student Media Awards, the Terry O'Neill Photography Award and the former Jerwood Photography Awards.

 Our Textiles with Business Studies courses prepare you to become a versatile textiles practitioner, able to work with printed, knitted or woven textiles for industry.

Fine Art Painting graduate Charlie Schaffer won the young artist category as part of the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize 2014 - and he's part of Sky Arts' Young Portrait Artist of the Year 2014 television series. His portfolio can be seen here.

 

 

Brighton's Fine Art Painting BA(Hons) is one of the few courses in the UK that offers specialist study in the subject. All studio lecturers are established professional painters, guaranteeing that you are taught by tutors with specific and up-to-date knowledge of the medium.

The University of Brighton offers RIBA Architecture courses as well as Interior Architecture, which focuses on the interaction between people and space, linking with ideas in contemporary culture.

The Architecture course has a strong studio culture and camaraderie is encouraged throughout the course as students learn through a series of site-specific live projects. You can meet some of our students here.

 

 

Brighton's Fine Art Performance BA(Hons) course helps you to develop the practical skills and vocabulary to make your own creative work and prepares you to think critically. Students explore immersive environments, participatory interactions, live presence and choreographed screen and sound.

The Graduate Show encompasses our Fashion with Business Studies course which had its own catwalk show, streamed live, as well as an exhibition as part of Graduate Fashion Week, both in east London.

 

 

Our fashion students received great press coverage this year. Dazed featured Dean Jennings, Alice Verrall and Dan Cao.

During the 2014 Grad Show the Brighton Waste House was completed and opened its doors to visitors - it received some great press attention and a mention from supporter Green party MP Caroline Lucas:
