Architect Mary Duggan who graduated from the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts, is on the shortlist for The Architects Journal (AJ), Woman Architect of the Year award 2013.
Duggan, who retains her connections with Brighton and has returned to talk to current Architecture students about her work and experiences, co-founded Duggan Morris Architects in 2004. Since then the practice has won the RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize and the Manser Medal.
The practice was also nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award, and last year, won an international competition held by the Architecture Foundation to design a floating cinema in East London.
Duggan is currently working on a £2.4 million office conversion in London’s Shoreditch, creating contemporary office suites and a new sports and swimming pool complex from an all-girl special needs school in Buckinghamshire.
The AJ Women in Architecture campaign and awards are designed to promote the status of women in architecture while encouraging role models for young women in practice. The judges’ decision is due to be announced in April.
