Additional campus space to enhance Faculty of Arts facilities.

Plans for the expansion of the Faculty of Arts campus as part of the University of Brighton's overall stratgey to develop the existing campus in and around Grand Parade are now taking shape. The plan includes the development of sites at Circus Street and Edward Street, both of which are close to the existing campus.
The Circus Street development will transform the area from an old market into a mixed development providing new homes, a library and university buildings with a dance studio and places to eat and drink. The £100 million scheme is expected to contribute £200 million to the local economy and 600 jobs over the next ten years.
The project is led by Cathedral Group, in partnership with the University of Brighton’s Faculty of Arts, Brighton & Hove City Council and South East Dance.
Professor Anne Boddington, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, said: “We see this as a great opportunity to enhance the facilities we have for our students and staff.
“The new library and learning centre for the arts that we are proposing in Circus Street will showcase our extraordinary creative resources and include publicly accessible exhibition space, allowing us to invite the city’s communities to collaborate and see our work and our historic design collections.”
The faculty has also acquired a four storey 1970s building in nearby Edward Street. This will be converted from commercial offices to provide teaching and administration space for approximately 800 students and 130 members of staff.
