Last night (15 October) at Buckingham Palace, the Design Council and its guests celebrated 50 years of the Prince Philip Design Prize. Many past winners, as well as current nominees, were in attendance as His Royal Highness announced the winner of the 2009 prize, Andrew Richie, creator of the Brompton folding bicycle. The Design Council archive within the University of Brighton Design Archives holds plentiful evidence of this longstanding initiative, and provided many of the historic images used in an accompanying exhibition and publication. The Archives were represented at the ceremony by Dr. Lesley Whitworth.
