The Centre for Research & Development's termly newsletter Research News (Summer 2008) is available to download online (click here).
Research News disseminates recent research work by staff and PhD students from the three schools across the Faculty, to external institutions and partners. Always encompassing a range of interests and subjects, articles in this issue includes:
- Cold War Modern Design: 1945 - 1970, Ruth Cribb, a University of Brighton PhD candidate, discusses some of the politics and ideologies behind the designs of the Cold War period exhibited in the next major exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Curated by University of Brighton Principal Research Fellow, Jane Pavitt and consultant curator David Crowley from the Royal College of Arts.

It will present design of this period from both sides of the Iron Curtain, showing not only how modern design was shaped by the politics of the time, but also how governments used art and design to communicate difering ideas of what it meant to be modern."
- The Unwanted Self: Contemporary Photography from the Low Countries, David Green, curator of the the successful exhibition of five Dutch photographers at the University of Brighton gallery, explores whether it is possible to define photography in terms of national cultural identity and "if so, whether there is any choice for the artist: thus the idea of 'the unwanted self'."
- Without Walls: An open call for a conflict museum, Dr Louise Purbrick writes about contemporary museum practices and their role in conflict resolution, particularly in Northern Ireland.

Article headings and guidelines are as follows:
- Main Articles: approximately 500 words.
- Featured Article: There is one featured article per issue, approx 1500 words.
- Conferences/Events: approximately 250-500 words each.
- Staff News: a summary of recent work, 100 word minimum.
- Student News: a summary of recent work, 100 word minimum.
Please supply your images in JPG, Photoshop, TIFF or EPS format. Image dimensions should be at least 150mm on their longest side (preferably bigger). Image resolution should be no less than 300dpi.
