International Federation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI) awards joint 2nd prize for research paper
15 Aug 2013
Vikki Haffenden, PhD candidate and technical demonstrator with the Fashion and Textile department, will be presented with a cheque for USD 1,000 at the annual IFFTI conference, which this year is at London College of Fashion in April 2009, following delivery of her paper, 'Knit to fit: applying technology to larger sized women's knitwear for comfort and wellbeing.'
She explains: 'Brighton is becoming a member of the IFFTI, and will be ‘introduced’ at the conference...The paper is centred around my PhD research, with particular emphasis on its potentially positive effects on the self esteem, body cathexis and general well being of larger sized women. The paper discusses inferences and deductions made from primary data gathered through my research and concentrates especially on the shape rather than the size of women.'
The international competition for this award was steep. IFFTI is a comprehensive and prestigious international organisation representing leading fashion higher education institutions in areas of design, technology and business. Member Institutions participate in International Annual Conferences and collaborate with each other in bilateral agreements and many professional development activities, setting the standard for fashion education throughout the world, and developing close relationships with the fashion related industries.
University of Brighton has been invited to become a member of this global network of institutions recognized as leaders in the advancement of education in design, technology and business for fashion and its related industries through international collaboration. Our MDes programme in Fashion with Business Studies shares IFFTI’s aims: to provide wider opportunities for global study and international work; to strengthen and foster relations with the global fashion and related industry; and to develop a greater understanding of the role and responsibility of the fashion and its related industries in the global economy and international community.
