University of Brighton MArch students Hien Nguyen and Charlie Piper have been selected by architecture and design magazine 'Blueprint' for their article 'Best Student Projects in Britain' 2010.
Both Hien and Charlie engaged directly with the lived reality of homelessness in Brighton, and revealed many things about the city, its legislative and social structures, and the use of urban space. Their projects were challenging and sophisticated, and both students worked hard to find their role as designers within this complex social, economic and political situation. Because of this, their design projects were innovative and intelligent, and experimented with the potential of architecture and urbanism to make social and political change. We are pleased that they were selected by Blueprint as two of the most accomplished graduate projects of the year, and see this as a positive sign for the future of British architecture that is relevant and engaged.
