'Modern Life' is the learning disabled band's first music video to use archive film, a unique collaboration with filmmakers from the Oska Bright Film Festival team. Six archive films from the Screen Archive South East (University of Brighton) were chosen for the project. View the video.
Screen South commissioned the work to encourage creative use of Screen Archive South East collections. Oska Bright filmmakers Matthew Hellett, Sarah Watson, Chris Love and Adele King edited images of old Brighton and Hove to show how changes in transportation and society have quickened the pace of life. The team also made a 16-minute documentary about the making of the video, to show how archive film collections can be relevant to learning disabled people.
Both films will be screened at Hove Museum & Art Gallery from 5 - 20th March 2011, with a special launch event Saturday 5 March, 11am-noon, attended by the Brighton & Hove Deputy Mayor.
'Modern Life' was commissioned by Screen South. The UK Film Council created the Digital Film Archive Fund to increase public access to and awareness of our regional screen heritage. The members of Beat Express are Lee Hubbard, Ryan O'Donovan, Claire Offley and Chris Rider.
