The focus of the project was to explore a new set of design guidelines that emerged from researching fashion references in both menswear and womenswear from 1988- 1993 and apply them for contemporary womenswear collection.

The first guideline was to play with scale and proportion, exploring the combination of both extremes of scale, small and large. It will investigate the ways which we, as designers, use fabrics to create scale in proportion to the body and how these two elements can combine together to create a mismatched aesthetic.

The second guideline aimed to look at tailoring from a relaxed soft approach, by experimenting with unusual fabric combinations and the addition or subtraction of structure. Also, by exploring simpler more basic garments, such as t-shirts and small tops – in muted colours and knitwear- it hopes to create a sense of oddity when sat amongst more tailored garments.

The third guideline aimed to investigate unusual textural combinations, experimenting with fabrics that perhaps hint at luxury and exploring fabrics through a limited, yet textured colour palette.
