Re: Map - free photography workshop at Portslade on 18th February. All welcome.
Proving that the relationships formed during a University course can flourish after graduation day, Lindsey Smith, Barbara Taylor and Lynn Weddle have joined forces to create HISTORIA. Taken from the title of their Graduate show named by course leader Joanna Lowry, HISTORIA combines the different approaches each artist has in the medium of photography to create narratives inspired from the world around them.
After meeting on the Photography MA at University of Brighton, Barbara, Lynn and Lindsey set up HISTORIA as a way of creating opportunities to make and exhibit new work. Working in partnership with BLANK Studios and Gallery in Portslade, the group are developing a project plan for an 8-week residency later in the year. As part of the project the group will be running a free workshop, Re: Map, using digital photography and QR Codes on Saturday 18 February 2012.
HISTORIA is keen to work with people in Portslade. Anyone with a connection to the area is invited to join the artists to explore collective memory and experience of place. The workshop will involve mapping out the local area by sharing stories and photographing places of personal importance. Participant’s photographs will be exhibited in an online gallery and will provide inspiration for the project’s development.
HISTORIA is in the process of applying for funding with the intention of taking part in Brighton Photo Fringe in October 2012. The project will include a program of workshops, events and an exhibition at BLANK.
Come and take part in developing a new photography project at BLANK. Join HISTORIA, a group of local photographic artists, in mapping out the local area using digital photography and QR Codes. Come and tell us your stories about special places in Portslade. Bring a digital camera and smart phone if you have one (not essential). Everybody welcome. Cafe open.
