The 'Peerless Pier' Exhibition

University of Brighton Faculty of Arts, BA(Hons) Architecture students have some interesting designs on Hastings Pier. The third year students’ project, entitled the Peerless Pier, saw them speculating over the future of the structure which was left in a derelict condition following a fire in 2010. Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) now hopes the pier will be reconstructed with the help of a heritage lottery fund.

The students’ project culminated in a range of reinterpretations, renovations and redesigns to a brief provided by the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) commissioned architects dRMM.

The resulting designs aimed to strike a balance between use, purpose, visual presence, meaning, commercial viability and built structure and provided a rich variety of responses to provoke thought and debate.

HPWRT sponsored the exhibition of the students’ work and also took the opportunity to present the proposals that are currently in development by dRMM for the lottery fund bid.

The exhibition at the Trinity Gallery in Hastings was recently featured on the BBC News website where a range of images can be viewed.

The exhibition is on until the 29th June 2012 at Trinity Gallery, 8 Trinity Street, Hastings.
