Graduate students who studied at the University of Brighton Hastings Campus formed part of a film crew which has drawn high praise from American film director Doug Liman. The new sci-fi film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton.
The three, Luke Fuller, Dan Worth and Lorena Wright have all gone on to find further work in the media. Luke, who studied an FdA Television Production in 2012 is now a researcher at the BBC, Lorena, who did the same course, is now a producer’s assistant at Skyline Films and has been working with Guy Ritchie as the unit manger on 'Man From Uncle'. Dan Worth, who studied Top-up Broadcast Media 2012 and FdA Broadcast Media 2011, is now a freelance assistant film and TV director.
Doug Liman, has spoken of the "extraordinary" experience he had shooting at the Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire. He said: "We shot the entire movie on the stages and back-lot at Leavesden,", referring to the Warner Bros-owned facility where the Harry Potter films were made. “I've shot elsewhere in Europe, and my experience has been that when you need a specialist you fly someone in from England. By making the film in England I got to have the best in every department."
Previous films by Liman include The Bourne Identity and Mr and Mrs Smith. He praised the crew in the wake of this year's Academy Awards, which saw space thriller Gravity scoop seven Oscars for its British crew members.
The New York-born director was speaking at a preview of footage of the film, which is due for release in the UK on 30 May.
