Graduate Sean Gardiner's images in Gilchrist-Fisher exhibition.
03 Mar 2014
Sean Gardiner, who graduated from the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts Photography BA(Hons) in 2012, is one of six artists shortlisted for the 2014 Gilchrist-Fisher Award for Landscape Artists.
Gardiner’s work features in the competition exhibition which is due to open later this week when the winners will be announced. First prize is £3,000 with £1,000 for the runner-up.
The judges are painter Stephen Chambers RA, critic and broadcaster Matthew Collings, landscape photographer Harry Cory-Wright, and painter Elizabeth Magill.
Gardiner, who is based in Dorset, takes inspiration from the natural world, emphasising a sense of quiet and simplicity. Never considering the photographs to be influenced by or about a certain thing, Gardiner says he sees “space and ambiguity as a vital element” of his practice. Since his 2012 graduation, he has exhibited in Norway and Sweden, and Lilk Gallery in the UK.
The exhibition runs from 6-28 March at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery, 2A Conway Street, London W1T 6BA.
