E.A. (Ernest Alfred) Sallis Benney ARCA (1894-1966) exhibited landscape paintings at the RA, RBA, ROI and with NEAC; he also designed commemorative tablets. His administrative skills and vision for art education led to his 1934 appointment as Director for the County Borough of Brighton and Principal of the School of Art. An era of expansion, community involvement and stronger links with industry ensued.
A copy of the windmill linocut was sold through Meridian Gallery, Dorking, Surrey, with a note ”This is a lino-cut given to Dorothy Avery as a wedding gift by E A Sallis Benney, August 1947.″
