Born in 1964, illustrator, equine and portrait painter Kenneth McKendry studied at Belfast Art College before taking a degree in Illustration from the faculty (then Brighton Polytechnic) in 1986 during which year he was commissioned to paint the Dean of Brighton College of Art, Sir Robin Plummer. He went on to illustrate novels by John Steinbeck for Mandarin Books and further commissions with Penguin. He worked as an illustrator for Artist Partners Ltd until 1999.
In 2000 he was comissioned to paint Michael Aldrich and in 2001 Professor John Vernon Lord, works now in the Aldrich Collection. He also had a commission from Michael Aldrich for an equine portrait of Quarter Horse.
