Represented in the Aldrich collection by a lithograph from 1938, Cowern was a British etcher and painter labelled as among those in the "final flowering" of the etching technique in the 1930s and 40s. Cowern was among those artists who undertook the 'Recording the changing face of Britain' project established by Sir Kenneth Clark and the Committee for the Employment of Artists in Wartime.
