Screen Archive South East films on the BFI Player

Screen Archive South East (SASE) is one of the significant film archive collections in the UK that has been awarded a grant from the British Film Institute’s Unlocking Film Heritage Digitisation Fund. Its purpose is to increase free public access to archive film in the UK.

The Digitisation Fund is supporting the technical costs of digitisation and prioritises material that appeals to new and diverse audiences whilst representing and relating to communities throughout the UK. The legacy: SASE will have high quality masters (at 2K resolution) available for access use from all of the films which have benefitted from this investment.

SASE's material selected for Round one includes 124 films from 1911 onwards and comprises documentaries, amateur films, news films, films originally designed as public records, political films, short fiction and animation and they fall into the themes: China on Film, What’s That Film – Oddities and Enigmas, Film of the Day and Britain on Film.
