Opening the 59th British Film Institute's London Film Festival tonight is the much anticipated full-length feature drama Suffragette.

Written by Sarah Gavron and starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep, the film charts the rise of the suffrage movement by following the story of a working class woman's political awakening. The producers secured rare permission to film in the Houses of Parliament and also enhanced the production's style by drawing on archival film footage from the early 20th Century. This includes unique newsreel footage of Emily Davidson's funeral on 14 June, 1913 from the Screen Archive's collection which can be viewed below:
