Exhibition at Filmonik in Manchester.
24 Sep 2014
This exhibition represents the culmination of a year-long project during which Manchester based artist Jo Clements travelled around the UK visiting and researching the collections of nine regional film archives. Nine new bodies of work have been created in response to individual films, one selected from each of the archives, and are presented here for the first time alongside the original archived films. Jo selected material from the Screen Archive South East's collection of 16mm films of Broadstairs Kent filmed in the 1920s and 30s by Miss Enid Briggs. These films are of particular interest as they come from the rare perspective of a woman film-maker from that period and because they provide a considered and well-executed depiction of Broadstairs summer entertainment and local topical events such as Uncle Mack's Minstrels troupe.
The exhibition runs from 18-26 September, 2014 at Filmonik, 3rd Floor, Federation House, Federation Street/Balloon Street, Manchester M60 4EP
