Kodak have donated £18,000 worth of digital cameras to the School of Architecture and Design which has attracted £30,000 from the Eastman Kodak Co. and £5,000 from the University’s Excellence in Teaching Fund. Through its charitable funds, Kodak is a major supporter of educational projects, although this donation is the first that directly helps students in Higher Education.
The project, managed by
David Clews will explore how students use photography and the wider practices of imaging both as a design tool and as an aid to learning. Additionally the funding will help to develop web based teaching, learning and communication tools. The current project is targeted at preliminary level architecture and interior architecture students and will have a particular focus on the integrative teaching of design and technology. The project will be completed in October 2002 although the key components that involve students will be completed in April 2002, and we will begin discussing an extension of the project into other art and design fields within the Faculty and possibly within the wider University community.
