‘Occupy - the diary of a protest’ is a documentary project resulting from a close and sustained engagement with the occupation outside St Paul’s Cathedral - at the very heart of the City of London. Pairing still photographic images and audio testimony, Richard’s work challenges both the medium of photography, and the photographer, to consider the relationship between the forms of representation afforded by these technologies, and the challenge presented by those in the photographs, the challenge to our established ways of living, and thus to the established ways of determining the ‘sensible world’.
Richard Rowland is a British photographer focusing on the urban landscape and the relationship between space and image. Previous projects in China and Dubai have examined emerging landscapes bearing physical testimony to the massive shifts that have occurred in the underlying logic of the new city, and of its representation. Richard has exhibited and published extensively both within the UK and abroad, including the University of Westminster and The National Gallery, Pristina, Kosovo.
