Miguel Álvarez-Peralta is Professor of Political Communication and Global Media Structure at the UCLM School of Journalism, in Spain. His research interests focus on the dialectical dependence of public opinion and cultural hegemony on the media system's structure, and the potentials of social networks for advancing political change. He has been Fellow Researcher at the Department of Romance Languages at Harvard University (2012-2013). Alvarez-Peralta graduated in Media Studies at UC3M and Computer Engineering at UCM, where he got his Ph.D. in Mass Communications Research. He has been political analyst and campaign consultant of the party Podemos, collaborating with the Political Secretariat, where he coordinated the Office for Media Policies (2015-2017).
In this workshop Dr Alvarez will reflect on the experience of PODEMOS and the political lessons learnt in the past 5 years since the party was formed in 2013. Colleagues interested in the politics of Europe, of austerity and of left resistance to austerity should participate. Places are limited so please reserve a place with Ian Sinclair. (I.A.
