Seminar 5
On the 9th December 2011 the Screendance Network convened for a last time in its current configuration before the termination of the AHRC Research Project on the 31st Dec 2011.
After two years of debates and activities the Network members – Claudia Kappenberg, Sarah Whatley, Doug Rosenberg Harmony Bench, Ann Cooper-Albright, Marisa Zanotti and Simon Ellis – met to review the progress made over the last two years and to make plans for the next phase of research and development. For the meeting, the UK-based members met in person and the US-based members contributed through skype and email.
Following extensive discussion it was agreed that a Centre for Screendance needed to be formed as a hub for future activities.
The Centre for Screendance – hosted by the University of Brighton – will in the first instance continue the Network’s aims by overseeing the publication of the International Journal of Screendance. The group will also seek funding to develop a range of additional projects that attempt to provoke screendance practitioners, researchers and curators around the world. We will look to advance debates around screendance, and welcome a range of screendance practices that might include experimental film techniques, visual arts influences, research approaches and radical choreographic thinking.
The Centre for Screendance will host a new blog with a view to publishing a collection of essays, reviews, news and opinions posted by members of the Centre for Screendance and occasional guests.
You can follow the blog by subscribing to the RSS feed – http://screendance.wordpress.com/feed – or by selecting +Follow.
The minutes of the meeting on the 9th December will be published shortly.
