24rd - 31st March 2011, University of Brighton Gallery, Grand Parade
In the last of a series of exhibitions at the University of Brighton Gallery, Grand Parade, the 2nd Year BA Hons. Photography and Sculpture students invite you to link thought with reality and the imagination, to initiate an understanding of creative art that goes beyond the limits of language.
The work is a unique collection inspired by Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophical ideologies. The artists involved have each developed their own private language resulting in an exciting juxtaposition of ideas and practices united by a desire to communicate those inner experiences, which are usually inaccessible to others.
Working alongside 2nd Year BA Hons. Photography, 2nd year BA Hons. Sculpture presents a show in the north gallery that seeks to represent the exciting collaborative energy of the studio within a public space. Through a curative process in which every student has played a part we have sought not only to emulate the generative atmosphere of the working studio but actually transfer it. The result being an intense and visceral exploration into the fundamentals of sculptural creation, using an awareness of space, the essential properties of materiality and symbols that are simultaneously familiar and foreign.
