Fashion and Textiles MDes Work in Progress Exhibition

 Drawing together the final year MDes students in textiles and fashion design, this year’s Work in Progress Exhibition again sets the foundation for their continued exploration before their final exhibition of work in May.  Covering a diverse range of subjects, materials, processes, and even a critique on the fashion industry itself, this year’s exhibition challenges the way textiles and fashion are created and perceived.
 
 

The diverse range of work presented covers areas of practice based research and critical enquiry including:
 
-        The digital visualisation of hand crafted textiles, where visitors will be invited to contribute to the weaving of a cloth that explores the subtle differences resulting from production by different practitioners (Sarah Wilson woven textiles).
-        An Investigation into the construction of knitted structures and interlocking technology, producing hybrid multifunctional textiles with opposing surface properties (Elinor Pierce Knitted Textiles).
-        An exploration into the relationship between motion and stillness and capturing Illusions of movement in a motionless garment (Katie Ring Fashion Design).
-        A critical view of the hype, preciousness and disposability in the fashion industry and wider popular culture explored through inflated, shiny, appealing yet low value materials (Vivienne Vine Fashion Design).
