6x6 is a collaborative letterpress project which celebrates the work of staff and students from six leading Art and Design Schools in the UK with active letterpress workshops. The schools are: Brighton College of Art the University of Brighton, Camberwell College of the Arts, London College of Communication, Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Lincoln School of Art and Glasgow School of Art. Each designer responded to a common brief and the work exhibited is to be published in a collaborative publication between the six colleges. A series of essays commissioned from each of the colleges and featured in the exhibition provide staff and students with the opportunity to reflect upon the nature of letterpress practice and its relationship with typography and the broader discipline of Graphic Design.
This is the second year the Visual Communication Programme has supported a student book exhibition. The exhibition celebrates books, written, illustrated, designed and bound by undergraduate and post graduate students within the Programme. The traditional codex form of the book is being challenged by digital formats, but a series of bound pages remains a fascinating space for young designers and illustrators. Each new generation of designers and illustrators must challenge or re-invent the orthodoxy of the codex form if the book is to survive.
Opening hours 10am-5pm.
