Martin Speake’s Change of Heart (titled after the alto saxophonist’s acclaimed ECM recording of the same name) will tour to major jazz venues throughout the UK for seven dates in February 2009. His quartet features the great Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson, English bassist Steve Watts and American drummer Jeff Williams. After a successful tour in 2007 which featured music from the Change of Heart album, the group will perform new compositions by Martin Speake that will highlight the improvising skills of the four musicians, each of whom bring their own unique qualities to the music.
Change of Heart makes a compelling case that Martin Speake is one of the most interesting and rewarding alto saxophonists now playing jazz on any continent. Thomas Conrad, Jazz Times Change of Heart is one of those jazz records that is at once accessible, clear and limpid.
