RSA Fellowship event
How can we change the leadership paradigm:
- To create better leadership practice for women and men?
- To create a better leadership environment for young people?
Joining us to lead a dynamic conversation are:
- Fleur Bothwick OBE, global head of Diversity and Inclusive Leadership at Ernst and Young
- Kate Dale, head of Brand and Digital at Sport England and champion for the ‘This Girl Can’ Campaign
- Liam Hackett, CEO Ditch the Label
- David Brockway, The Great Initiative
- Ambassador, the Girl’s Network
The debate on the role and influence of women in leadership, in employment, in organizations and in wider society continues to develop and deepen. In 2014, the RSA Brighton and Hove initiated a public conversation on women and leadership, to understand how this global, and sometimes national, conversation takes on meaning in our area. These conversations held over the course of two events, involving women and men from key local and regional organizations, highlighted three key points:
- The qualities that women bring to leadership need to be valued on a par with those that men bring: That is to say, this is not about women becoming like men
- Enabling leadership is about embracing diversity of all kinds
- Youth involvement is vital in setting a better leadership environment for young people
In organizing a third event, we want to generate relevant, thought provoking outcomes to inspire and enable leaders in our area. In addition, we will publish these outcomes to motivate a wider debate across the RSA regional networks and the RSA nationally. The Questions:
(a) What are the leadership qualities and practices needed to enable women and men to lead more effectively together?
(b) What do we need to do to encourage development of a diverse and gender equitable environment for young people to foster the shared leadership culture at earlier stage?
(c) How do we do this?
The outcome and recommendations of this audience led conversation will be published by the RSA. This event is the third in our series on ‘Women in Leadership’.
