Mem Morrison is a performance artist who has been making his own, highly personal, work since 1995. He is interested in exploring performance as a healing process and as a way of finding a voice. With a strong emphasis on design and colour, the work often draws upon personal history and environment to evoke the complexities of acknowledging and accepting cultural differences. The work varies in scale and location, from solo to group performances.
Projects include Kit (1996), a site specific performance in an old cotton mill in Manchester, Push (1997), an adapted version of his published writings Out, national tour of Showroom (1998) for which he won the Brian King Award, and national tour of the Time Out award winning Lilac (1999/2000), Triptych (2000) commissioned by Arnolfini, Bristol, Mead Gallery, Coventry and Bluecoat Arts, Liverpool, a unique performance made exclusively for three cities, Event (2002) at the Young Vic and BAC, London.
