Sallis Benney Theatre
Legacy Film Festival was born out of an idea that came into being back in January 2010 as part of the plans for Brighton & Hove Black History Month. It was decided that this year Black History Month would take the theme ‘Legacy’ with a view to creating relationships, structures and events that could be built upon year after year as well as things that could take place all year round.
Legacy Film Festival will not only be bringing you some of the work by one of the godfathers of Black British cinema, but we will also bring you the man himself. Menelik Shabazz, founder of BFM International Film Festival, Publisher of BFM (Black Filmmaker) Magazine and pioneering director will be gracing the stage of the Sallis Benney Theatre in Brighton to present 2 of his film shorts, as well as talk about their content in relation to contemporary society.
To bring us from the past to the present day we will be screening 2 of British/Nigerian Director Omelihu Nwanguma's film shorts. 2 parts of a 3 part work in progress, with the film 'Seeker' having won several film festival awards both nationally and internationally, these films will take us to the streets of Lagos and bring Nigeria direct to our screen and into view.
