The Symposium
The event celebrates the bicentenary of the first full year of the Regency in Great Britain, its colonies and Hannover. It also celebrates the centenary of Antony Dale, founder of the Regency Society six decades ago and author of many works including Fashionable Brighton, who was born in 1912.
'Our definition of Regency is the time of George, Prince of Wales and later King George IV, who was his father’s regent from 1811-1820. He dominated British public life from the 1780s to his death in 1830, although the Regency generation really ended with his brother William’s death seven years later and Victoria’s accession to the throne.'
