Clare Griffiths (Beepurple) offers practical advice on becoming self-employed, working freelance, or running your own community arts practice, while Judith Alder (Blue Monkey Network) considers the pros and cons of artist-led initiatives and the many skills involved in pursuing a career in the precarious field of fine art practice.

If you are considering becoming self-employed, working freelance, or running your own community arts practice, now or in the future, then this workshop is for you! During this session, you will learn how to analyse your ideas, and work out whether your projects are worth pursuing. You will also find out about the steps you should take to turn your ideas into reality, and the support you can access along your into self-employment. By the end of this workshop, you will have the knowledge and tools to help you create your own employment.
Judith Alder (Blue Monkey Network): ‘Artists leading’
Judith Alder is a visual artist based in Eastbourne, co-founder of Blue Monkey Studio in Eastbourne and founder/organiser of Blue Monkey Network, an artists’ network and professional development organization. Judith will talk about her experience of developing a career in the arts over the past 10 years, the pros and cons of artist-led initiatives and the many skills involved in pursuing a career in the precarious field of fine art practice.
