
This year Green Architecture Day includes cutting-edge talks on green building brought to you by Brighton Permaculture Trust and Low Carbon Trust. The day will focus on different design approaches to the green building. We have diverse speakers to inspire anyone interested in sustainability and the built environment.
This year's speakers:
Alice Edgerley from Assemble
Assemble, winners of the Turner Prize 2015, are a collective working across the field of art, design and architecture. Alice will feature their projects that work with local people to design and build their local environments, including Granby Four Streets in Liverpool and Cafe OTO in Hackney.
Ben Law
Ben Law, well-known for his Woodsman's Cottage featured on Grand Designs, is speaking on his 'resource first' design approach: starting with local materials and designing from what is available. He will also focus on our woodland resource in the UK, profile some of his buildings and look at the growth of roundwood timber framing locally and globally.
Michael Mehaffy
Michael Mehaffy of the Sustasis Foundation will share the work of the highly influential architect, Christopher Alexander. He will speak about Christopher's work on pattern language and how can work with natural process, integrated with ways of life.
Duncan Baker-Brown
Architect and lecturer at the University of Brighton, Duncan Baker-Brown has been involved in many of the UK's high profile green developments and will talk this year about his research into reuse.
Nic Pople
Sussex architect, Nic Pople, will talk about architecture inspired by nature using craft traditions, rather than industrialised processes. He will feature his recent church projects and residential schemes.
Nicola Lang from Transition Homes
Nicola Lang will speak about Totnes' Transition Homes community project for afforable, sustainable homes on a seven-acre site in Dartington.
Cat Fletcher
Founder of Freegle and Reuse Manager for Brighton & Hove, will give tours of the Waste House on site at the venue. Cat was part of the design and construction team and sourced most of the materials for the building.
