Ian Potts was a highly successful painter and educator, leading the painting department at the Brighton College of Art. He worked primarily in watercolours, drawing on the traditions of British landscape art in the medium and bringing to it his own dynamic and creative vision. His subjects included the South East Coast of England, the Atlantic coast of France and the Mediterranean.

Starting with the most intimate of design objects, jewellery, I made pieces to be worn next to the body, to be handled and changed by the handling. This led to using clothing forms, objects that followed or deviated from the human form, and which acted as metaphor for a person. Realist painter Sylvia Sleigh was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Women’s Caucus for Art shortly before her death in 2010. Denise Ho founded a career in high fashion after graduating a BA (Hons) at the University of Brighton and an MA at Central Saint Martins in London. She went on to work at London’s only couture house Boudicca.
Following her BA(Hons) in Design History at the University of Brighton, completed in 1984, Amy de la Haye studied for an MA in Cultural History at the Royal College of Art (RCA). In 1991 she was appointed as Curator of Twentieth Century Dress at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Going onto a career in film at UCLA, Sandra Lawton attended the Brighton College of Art's programme for gifted children between 1958 and 1965. Professor Michael Tucker was honoured in 2012 as a Knight: First Class in recognition for his 'outstanding service in the interest of Norway.' His career at the Faculty of Arts included the curation of exhibitions at the Gallery for over thirty years and publications on shamanism, Norwegian culture, jazz and, notably, the work of Sir Alan Davie.

Living in the crafts hothouse of Ditchling in the 1930s Dunstan Pruden was much influenced by the Eric Gill and the Guild of St Dominic, under whose auspices (with Philip Hargreen) he published Silversmithing: its principles and practice in small workshops.
As a leading illustrator, wood engraver, painter, author of many books, teacher, and designer for posters, ceramics and glass, Clare Leighton enjoyed a distinguished career on both sides of the Atlantic.
Born in Margate in 1901, pioneering potter and teacher Norah Braden was the daughter of a lay preacher. Intensely musical as well as artistic, Braden learned to play the violin and was talented enough to reach concert standard; she considered studying music but declined an offer from the Royal College of Music.
"The degree was Design History... I had spent a good deal of time making music, but I had reached an impasse in that singularly unforgiving industry and so, seeking a change of direction that was underpinned by a healthy interest in the visual arts and design, I signed up for the course at Brighton."
Educated at Brighton School of Art in the early years of the Second World War, André Amstutz became an animator for Gaumont British (GB) Animation, before developing his career on a number of professional skills, including art directing for a number of leading British advertising agencies, poster designing and the prolific illustration of children’s books.
"As a young teenager I loved the degree shows (mainly I think, because the students would sell me wine in a plastic cup!). I liked everything about the college, from the inky smell to the squeaky corridors, but as I got older teenage rebellion kicked in and I dropped out of education (and society) to become a traveller and live in a bus."
Gerald Fleuss is a freelance calligrapher, letterer, and illustrator specialising in heraldic design and painting, a practice which he started in 1974. He is a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators and a member of the Art Workers’ Guild and the Double Crown Club.
