Organisation and structure
The Techne Doctoral Training Partnership comprises ten member universities and 15 partner organisations.
Members: Royal Holloway University of London (lead); Brunel University, London; Kingston University; Loughborough University, London; Royal College of Art; University of Brighton; University of Roehampton; University of the Arts London; University of Surrey and University of Westminster.
Partners: City of London consortium (Barbican, Guildhall, London Symphony Orchestra), Crafts Council, Focal Point Gallery, Heathrow Airport Holdings, Historic Royal Palaces, National Maritime Museum, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Kew Gardens, National Theatre and Archive, Natural History Museum, PACT - Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, Science Museum, The National Archives, UNICEF, V&A Museum, Watts Gallery
Techne's organisation is designed to enable it to work in a truly collaborative way, with member universities and students represented on all the constituent groups.
Steering Group - a group of senior management from member universities which meets bi-annually to give high-level guidance and monitor progress on deliverables.
Management Group – a group of senior academics and administrators from member universities which meets to develop policy and process, monitor performance and approve the final allocation of awards. Each member is represented (please see Members, Partners and Students for a list of all constituent group members). The Management Group meets four times a year and includes Student and Partner Representatives, an external representative and a Training Group representative. It is chaired by the techne Director from Royal Holloway.
Peer Review College (PRC) - responsible for reviewing student applications to inform the work of the Subject Groups. Techne encourages a range of academics and staff in Partner organisations to enrol in the PRC.
Subject Groups – responsible for recommending students for awards to the Management Group.
- Group C : Cultures and Heritage - Law, Politics and International Relations, Cultural Geography, Conservation, Media, Journalism and Publishing, Cultural Studies, Development, Ethnography and Anthropology
- Group H : History - Classics, Philosophy, Theology
- Group P : Creative Arts - Music, Creative Writing, Dance and Drama
- Group L: Languages and Literatures - English and Modern Languages, Interpreting and Translation
- Group V: Visual Arts - Theory and practice, Design, Architecture, Art History
Training Group – is responsible for planning training provision and commissioning training. Representatives of each member university sit on the Training Group together with representatives of Partners and students. The Group is chaired by the University of Roehampton.
Partners Forum – provides advice to Techne and develops engagement opportunities for its students. There are Partner representatives on the Management and Training Groups. The Forum is currently Chaired by Dr Sean Cunningham from The National Archives, and Loughborough London University lead Techne's work with Partners.
Students Reps - There is a student representative recruited annually to represent students at the Management Group and Training Group meetings.
